It was a foxwoman. The orc was dimly aware of these forest creatures, whose traces he sometimes could smell, but he had never seen one with his own eyes. Humans called them skogsra. She scowled at him.

FOLKLORE NOTES
skogsra (properly skogsrå) -
Nordic forest fairy. She is very
beautiful and alluring, *but* she
has the tail of a fox. Other
tales relate that her back
is hollow, illustrated by Björn here.
Sometimes she seduces men who
wander in the forest, but she is
repelled by Christian prayers.
The Russian forest fairy Rusalka
likes to tickle people to death. Her
hair is very long and shiny,
and her children are furry. Forest
fairies are generous to those who
please them or help their children.
